Seed Capital Bizkaia maintains its commitment with the company rooted in Bizkaia, a leader in the development of cameras for small satellites, joining the latest capital increase
Satlantis was founded in 2014, driven by a group of experts from various disciplines who firmly believed in the potential of the project: creating a small camera capable of taking multispectral images. “We began our journey – as Juan Tomás Hernani says, CEO of Satlantis – with the aim of moving from the initial telescope to the development of monitoring microsatellites, that is, real-time observation of large infrastructures or geographic areas that have high strategic value or economic and, from these, at a later stage, to the provision of geo-intelligence and data services”.
The added value of Satlantis’ technological developments lies in the dimensions of the camera created. Its weight, substantially lighter than others with similar characteristics, has aroused great interest in the sector due to the cost implications it might have; besides, its small size does not imply giving up any type of performance.
Regional support from the beginning
Ainara Basurko, Provincial Deputy for Economic Promotion of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, highlights the commitment of the local entity with the project since its creation. “Satlantis is a technology-based industrial business project with great potential for growth and job creation for Bizkaia. We have seen it born and accompanied since its early stages to the present, when it is already a mature project, both from a technological and activity point of view. And we continue to do so because Satlantis is an innovative project aligned with the challenges and transitions that we also face as territory”.
Future challenges
According to the CEO of Satlantis, “the five previous investors play a strategic role in the promotion of the company, and their trust has led us to become a company of satellite solutions for the environment, solving challenges such as the detection of emissions of methane, plastics in the sea or fires”. He also adds that “with the financial capacity of the round, we set up SATLANTIS International, responsible for development of the company in the USA, UK and the United Arab Emirates”.
