Tipografika will carry out in 2018 a set of initiatives aimed at promoting its business project in the coming years. These new challenges defined include expanding the catalogue of services by creating a digital division, called Burulab, aimed at developing applications, customized software, websites and other technological solutions.
Founded in 2010 and based in Leioa, Tipografika’s beginnings were focused on graphic design, editorial layout and printing.
Although their beginnings were humble (in a commercial premise in Romo), 5 years after their inauguration they were running electoral campaigns for candidates in university elections (UPV / EHU and URJC) or designing web applications for state level political parties.
“In this sense, – says Elen García Cangas, founder of the company together with David Fernández Rementería –, the incorporation as programmer of Sabin Mendiguren was crucial to fully enter the digital field and even the technological innovation that Udalia represents”.
Udalia has been implemented by the municipalities of Leioa, Legazpi and Amurrio and shown as an example of good practice by the CNIS Innovation Club. “In the digital field, – recalls Elen – in addition to Udalia, we have also made other applications and we plan to continue expanding the product catalogue”. In light of this, we have found it convenient to create a brand that differentiates, for commercial purposes, the type of digital activity of Tipografika from that related to the original field of design and printing. Publicizing this new digital division to the market, in which the Udalia tool will be included, requires a significant investment in working time and economic resources that we will be able to face thanks to the support that Seed Capital Mikro Bizkaia has provided us”.
Udalia, innovative product
Udalia has been the first job that Tipografika has done with and for the Leioa City Council. This computer tool is a user-friendly web content manager that unifies, simplifies and economizes the processes and procedures generated by the administrative activity of a city council. At the same time, it facilitates the diffusion among citizens of all municipal services. It builds a catalogue that serves as bridge between the processes/procedures management system of an institution and its final users. It also helps to improve the transparency standard by organizing the information starting from an inventory of real estate and equipment.
The operation of Udalia is automated, allows self-management and can be fully adapted to the particularities of each municipality.
In addition to systematizing the municipal bureaucracy, Udalia has also served to disseminate knowledge about the different services and equipment provided by the City Council to the public. When clicking on the number that identifies each municipal building, it can be checked the information about the procedures that are carried out in them. In addition, it has a search engine for procedures by categories or by keywords and a procedures/processes manual that compiles the files of all the procedures/processes. “Udalia is an unprecedented tool. I have spoken with many people from companies that work for the public administration and they all agree that they do not know any other custom made software that integrates procedures and maps. Therefore, it can be said that Udalia, although it was not born as an innovative idea, has become an innovative product”, says Fernández.
Public-private collaboration
“The result of that work – Elen points out – is the fruit of a close public-private collaboration over two years. This has allowed the creation of a municipal information system that is not only good for the user and benefits the public image of the City Council, but has also greatly simplified and economized the management tasks carried out by the City Council workers. Udalia’s innovation lies in these functions of improving the dissemination of information from the City Council and the work of its team”.
